The three lines
- Line 1: Phase-out at the pace that electricity needs allow, with at most twelve reactors. Backed by the Moderates.
- Line 2: The same main text as line 1, plus public ownership of major energy plants by the state and municipalities. Backed by the Social Democrats and the Liberals.
- Line 3: No further expansion, and the reactors in operation phased out within ten years. Backed by the Centre Party, the Left Party Communists (VPK) and the Christian Democrats (KDS).

About the referendum
After the Three Mile Island accident in 1979, Parliament decided that voters should have their say on nuclear power. All three lines meant a phase-out, at different speeds. Lines 1 and 2 were counted as the Yes side and together won a clear majority. Later that year Parliament decided that nuclear power should be phased out by 2010.
All Swedish national referendums have been advisory. Parliament is not bound by the outcome.
