About the referendum
The question was whether Sweden should join the common currency. Yes received the most votes only in Stockholm and Skåne counties, and Sweden kept the krona. Foreign Minister Anna Lindh, one of the leading voices for Yes, was murdered in the week of the vote.
All Swedish national referendums have been advisory. Parliament is not bound by the outcome.
